Introduction to polishing

Polishing refers to the use of mechanical, chemical or electrochemical action to reduce the surface roughness of the workpiece in order to obtain a bright, flat surface processing method. Polishing cannot improve the dimensional accuracy or geometric shape accuracy of the workpiece, but for the purpose of obtaining a smooth surface or mirror luster, and sometimes to eliminate the luster (extinction), usually with a polishing wheel as a polishing tool.

Introduction to polishing

Polishing classification

TypeCharacteristic
Mechanical polishingLow cost, simple operation, low   efficiency, uneven surface, suitable for small area surface treatment.
Chemical polishingSimple operation, high efficiency,   can be polished at the same time many workpieces, can be polished complex   shape of the workpiece, surface roughness uniform.
Electrolytic polishingThe process is simple, the   operation is easy, the polishing rate is high, the precision can be   controlled within 0.01mm, the internal and external color is consistent, and   the parts of small, complex shape, thin wall, soft and hard materials can be   processed.
Nano-polishingLow cost, no pollution, high   efficiency, uniform polishing, wide application, simple operation.
Ultrasonic polishingSuitable for processing hard and   brittle materials and non-conductive non-metallic materials, will not damage   the workpiece, processing accuracy up to 0.01mm
Magnetorheological polishingExtremely low roughness, the   polishing effect is uniform and is not limited by the shape of the workpiece

Polishing advantage

  • 1.

Polished surfaces prevent rust and corrosion.

The surface polishing of metal parts produces a shiny mirror effect that significantly enhances visual appeal.

  • 2.

Polished parts are easier to clean and maintain. In addition, they are less likely to harbor dirt, grime, and bacteria.

  • 3.

Minimizes surface degradation and increases the durability of parts and products.

  • 4.

Polishing can eliminate microscopic roughness and reduce surface friction, which is beneficial for parts that move or slide against each other.

  • 5.

The polishing method is a solid basis for further surface treatment, such as spray painting or coating.
